Experimenting and looking for interesting sounds, noises and forms of play are a focus of my musical work. Through the preparation of the instruments and the resulting way of playing, new, unusual sound spaces are possible.

Contour: Contours become acoustic figures on the way to structure, to form.

Structure: Form and structure result from selection and delimitation.

System: A piece of sound plays itself. If systems solidify over time, missing links arise. They come into conflict with the flow of changing time. Audio pictures with machine games.

Decay: In listening-parcours, solid forms soften. A sound world becomes brittle, changes, rears up, breaks down, dissolves into silence and thus offers a chance for new contours.

Gerhard Laber (*1946, Salzburg)
Coming from the jazz scene as a percussionist and drummer, his musical path increasingly developed in the direction of experimental and concept-related improvisational music. Today the focus of his work is in the field of sound and noise art. The unconventional handling of his instruments and sound bodies expand traditional sound ideas and thus create new musical listening experiences.

Experimentieren und suchen nach interessanten Klängen, Geräuschen und Spielformen sind ein Schwerpunkt meiner musikalischen Tätigkeit. Durch Präparation der Instrumente und die dadurch bedingte Spielweise sind neue ungewöhnliche Klangräume möglich.

Kontur: Aus Konturen werden akustische Gebilde auf dem Weg zu Struktur, zu Form.

Struktur: Aus Auswahl und Eingrenzung ergibt sich Form und Struktur.

System: Ein Klangwerk spielt sich selbst. Erstarren Systeme im Lauf der Zeit, so entstehen „missing links“. Sie kommen mit dem Fluss der sich verändernden Zeit in Widerspruch. Hörbilder mit Maschinenspiel.

Zerfall: In HörParcours weichen gefestigte Formen auf. Eine Klangwelt wird brüchig, verändert sich, bäumt sich auf, bricht in sich, löst sich auf bis zur Stille und bietet so eine Chance für neue Konturen.

Gerhard Laber (*1946, Salzburg)
Als Perkussionist und Schlagzeuger aus der Jazzszene kommend, entwickelte sich sein musikalischer Weg zunehmend in Richtung experimentelle – sowie konzeptbezogene Improvisationsmusik. Heute liegt der Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit im Bereich der Klang- und Geräuschkunst. Die unkonventionelle Handhabung seiner Instrumente und Klangkörper erweitern tradierte Klangvorstellungen und lassen so neue musikalische Hörerlebnisse entstehen.
